Highlights of Day 1 from Round 3 of the 2016/2017 HSBC Sevens World Series in Wellington (New Zealand) on January 27th 2017.

Only 4 teams remain unbeaten: South Africa, England, Canada and hosts New Zealand.


Canada was the surprise on Day 1 during the pool rounds, defeating a very strong Scotland and Wales, plus taking out Russia. The United States drew 21-21 to France – which proved the difference in the qualifying rounds. The USA defeated Samoa 24-12 and lost out to the All Blacks 7s side 24-12 during the final match of the day at Westpac Stadium.

USA Eagles captain Madison Hughes featured highly on the DHL Performance Tracker – with some superb defense from the sweeper.
